Alikie Kandler

Name:  Alikie Kandler

Age: 24

Hometown:  Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

How long have you been CrossFitting? 15 months

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise?  I like WODs with cleans and pull-ups!

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise?  Any WOD with a big number of wall balls and sit-ups, as my core isn’t the strongest (but you gotta own your weaknesses).

What is your previous workout/athletic background?  I’ve been playing softball since I was 11 years old and got into the gym scene about 4 years ago when I decided to join the team at my university. Found out about CrossFit during the lockdown in 2020 by watching old games videos via YouTube and I instantly took a liking to it.

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like?  It was great, but a little scary at first when walking in as you’re not exactly too sure of what is going on and you’ll have to learn some new terms that are much different from an average gym goer.

What results have you seen since CrossFitting?  I’ve gotten much stronger, physically which helps a lot with softball. I’ve also been able to take my overall health more seriously by taking into account my sleep methods and nutrition.

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? If it’s a very big rep scheme, I try to do manageable sets while pushing myself at the same time. I’ll also try to match myself up with another member of similar strength/skills and keep pace. If all fails, I’ll just focus on myself and just get the work done.

What's your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman?   Getting to start my mornings (or end my days) by connecting with other people and getting to push myself to become a better athlete.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman? If you’re looking for something that’s challenging where the WOD/exercises are different everyday, CrossFit is the right direction to go. As for CrossFit Cayman, the coaches are great and you’ll never get left out of the workout whether you are new or long time CrossFitter.
