Name: Brittany Springett
Age: 36
Hometown: Winnipeg, Manitoba
How long have you been CrossFitting? 7 years
What is your favorite WOD/Exercise? Anything with squat snatch! Also, double unders, overhead squats, deadlifts, running, wall balls, box jumps… things I am good at :)
What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise? Things I am bad at! Rowing, pushups, pull-ups, toes to bar. The technique of kipping is so foreign to me I don’t think I will ever learn it.
What is your previous workout/athletic background? I have played indoor and beach volleyball since I was a teenager. I also was in track for a while, basketball (although women in basketball can be vicious), and running. I have completed 2 1/2 marathons. Since starting CrossFit I have ditched everything else but volleyball.
What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like? The last CrossFit gym I was a member of focused more on strength and conditioning and I always wanted more intense workouts. This is exactly what I get every day at CrossFit Cayman. Also, I receive more constructive criticism here during workouts which immediately makes my technique better and the movements easier.
What results have you seen since CrossFitting? To be honest, I haven’t seen drastic differences in the way I look. I have been the same weight since I was 20 but I have gained a lot more lean muscle. In terms of strength, I have noticed that I will do a workout with my usual weights and gradually they start to seem lighter and lighter over time.
What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? I tell myself that it’s only 15-30 minutes of my life and I’m going to feel accomplished once I am done. Also, if the reps are high, I count in small increments (3, 5) and it makes it seem more manageable as well as knowing that the 15 people around me are feeling the same way!
What's your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman? The coaching. They keep on you to make sure you’re maintaining good technique. The members. Everyone gets along very well.
What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman? Whether you’re just starting or thinking of joining a new gym, it is a really great place to train. The members are welcoming, the coaches know their stuff, and the location is very central.
