Name: Cristina Spratt

Age: 40

Hometown: Cartagena, Colombia

How long have you been CrossFitting? Almost a year now.  Time flies!

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise? I have favorites for different reasons. Some I don’t enjoy as much but they work out parts of my body that I really need, some I find I’m just good at and seem to be easier if they are on a workout. Squats, deadlifts and cleans.

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise? I don’t have to think much about this one, Snatches and burpees. If it has the word snatches, I’m cringing. If it has burpees, I know I’ll be exhausted at the end.

What is your previous workout/athletic background? I’ve been an athlete all my life. When I was a child I did a bit of ballet and running at school. I stopped ballet ‘cause I had too much muscle and I didn’t like it.  I was a 6 year old! Then in my teens, volleyball. I was the setter and had an incredible jump. After that, lots of high intensity workouts. In recent years, I’ve been doing Aerial Arts, specifically Lyra, which in my terms, is Pilates on steroids and I love it!! I mix it up with CrossFit and they are a great combo.

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like? It was really great. You first don’t understand much, but I really like that safety is first and doing the exercises right, not just throwing yourself at them. That makes a massive difference!

What results have you seen since CrossFitting? A much leaner, stronger self.

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? I negotiate with myself. From splitting a set into multiple sub-sets to offering myself a good dessert that day if I finish the workout.

What's your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman? The people. I do the 5:30am class and we are all there to start our day. I really enjoy the early start. Amanda, Matt and Tarasa are great coaches, not sure how they are that awake that early.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman? Just try it! It’s a great workout and definitely not what some people sometimes perceive about CrossFit, that you push yourself risking form and posture. It’s the complete opposite. You do have to accept that if you want really good results, it’s a mix of what you do with what you eat.
