May Athletes of the Month

Congrats to Sergio Dorea and Sacha Didier on being May’s Athletes of the Month! Please read their stories below.

Age: 49

Hometown: Sao Paulo , Brazil

How long have you been CrossFitting?  Since November 2012

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise? Anything with run, pull-ups, push-ups, Row,cleans, wall ball, and deadlift.

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise? BURPEES for sure, Overhead Snatch.

What is your previous workout/athletic background? As I grew up in Brazil, football(soccer), since it is a major sport over there. I played some volley ball in School. I used to go to the gym at least 4 times a week. Also, I trained boxing and Kick boxing for some time.

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like? Well, I thought I was in good shape, but I was totally wrong. I remember my first partner WOD, when my partner had to do 75% of the work out, because I was not able to finish (it was embarrassing).

 What results have you seen since CrossFitting? Sometimes it is hard to explain, but I feel so GOOD when I finish any work out, no matter how hard the WOD was. I have completely changed my eating habits and have felt the benefits of doing so. The last time I had my annual medical check-up, the nurse said that I must be very fit because my resting heart rate was around 48 beats per minute J My answer was, this is Crossfit!!!

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? It does not matter if I will do RX or Scaled , even before starting the WOD, mentally I already accepted to start and finish the WOD.

What’s your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman? I enjoy the environment , the Coaches are very nice and are always giving their best to teach the members how to perform the movements.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman?
If you are tired and want to break out from your normal routine, you SHOULD join Crossfit Cayman.

How long have you been CrossFitting? Since 2011

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise? Usually anything with push-ups, double unders and cleans

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise? WODs with Thrusters

What is your previous workout/athletic background? I’ve always been pretty active… I spent my youth competing in track and field, swimming and tennis. Before Crossfit I would typically spend 4 or 5 days a week in the gym.

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like? Humbling and a bit of a reality check. I thought I was fit but I had no idea what real fitness was like. My first workout was a 20 minute AMRAP of some basic movements and I could barely make it past 10 minutes.

What results have you seen since CrossFittingCrossfit is the most effective fitness program I have ever experienced. In a short space of time, It made me more energetic, stronger and healthier overall. I can do more now than I could in my 20’s.

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? I remind myself about the fitness goals that I have set…. then I find the person in the room who is killing the workout and try to keep up with them. I may not catch them but it keeps me going until the end.

What’s your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman? The atmosphere and the quality of the coaching.  I’ve been to other Boxes where you are just a number and the coaches don’t pay attention.  At CrossFit Cayman, I know I will have fun working out and will leave in one piece.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman? Just try it!  It’s a great program with incredible results. Start slow, make it past the foundations training and pay attention to the advice around nutrition.  You won’t regret it!
