Name: Deborah Baildam

Age: 28

Hometown: London, England

How long have you been CrossFitting? 1 year and 20 days!

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise? I like the chipper workouts, power cleans, push ups and pull ups.

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise?Running, rowing and snatches!

What is your previous workout/athletic background? Hmmm nothing worth mentioning! I went through phases of going to the gym and ‘working out’ but since joining CrossFit I laugh at what I used to do. It was practically a warm up!

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like? Surprising! Tim egged me on to join with him so I didn’t really know much about it at first. I was surprised how addictive it became and also how quickly we could get involved with the group classes. I realised very quickly if you wanted to make the most of it, it had to become part of your lifestyle and routine.

What results have you seen since CrossFitting? I’ve lost a lot of weight and toned up. My initial goal was to be able to do a pull up and I managed to get there after 6 months or so. Onwards and upwards for my next goal! Maybe it should be a muscle up!??

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? Cry!! Ha no not really – that comes afterwards! I just try to keep a steady pace and count down the reps so I know that there is a resting coming. I can push myself a lot harder than I used to do so I try not to give myself too many breaks – if I do have a break I try to only count to 3 before I start again.

What’s your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman? That it’s ok to be you! No one compares you to anyone else in the gym as everyone has different strengths. I’ve finally realised that it’s ok to not be a ‘runner’ and someone who jogs for half a day. I’m better at the short interval, high intensity training and it’s what I enjoy. The coaches are SO wonderful and always have time for you and the other members are very friendly so you get to know a lot about the people you’re working out with everyday.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman? Persist and be patient. Results doesn’t happen in day but when you do see them – it’s worth the wait!

Name: Tim Baildam

Age: 30

Hometown: I am originally from Manchester, England, and lived in London before moving to Cayman in 2016.

How long have you been CrossFitting? Just over a year.

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise? Anything involving muscle ups, pull-ups or deadlifts.

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise? Thrusters and overhead squats.

What is your previous workout/athletic background? Some amateur football (soccer) and going to the gym with little success!

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like? Everyone was very welcoming, and seemed very fit! We initially tried the free trial and that was enough to get us coming back for more.

What results have you seen since CrossFitting? Noticeable improvements in strength and fitness, and some weight loss. There’s a real buzz in hitting some of your personal ambitions, which for me included getting my first muscle up.

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? I try not to worry too much about the clock, and try to focus on getting through the next few reps and keeping moving (even if slowly).

What’s your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman? The community is great – after a couple of months you feel that you’re working out with friends, which makes it much easier and more enjoyable to turn up to the gym and push yourself.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman? Definitely give it a go – you’ll be surprised how much you enjoy it and by how quickly you see results. Don’t let anyone put you off from taking the first few steps in signing up!
