Name:  Mora Goddard

Age: 45

Hometown: Langley, British Columbia

How long have you been CrossFitting?  2 ½ years

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise?  Believe it or not, it’s Fran!  Most people cringe when they see this workout because of the intensity of it, however, that is what I love most about it!

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise?  Anything involving a squat snatch.

What is your previous workout/athletic background? I have always participated in some sort of athletic activity. Everything from BMX racing to attending dance class (tap, jazz, ballet & Polynesian)!  I took up mountain biking in my late teens (however this hobby died quickly when I moved to Cayman in my early 20s).  I also played soccer for a few years in my late 20s/early 30s.

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like?  It was quite intimidating and a real eye opener to where I thought my fitness level was at……..I always thought I was relatively fit until I joined crossfit!

What results have you seen since CrossFitting? The results have been so rewarding. It’s not so much about the weight I have lost, it’s more about the inches I have lost and the strength I have gained. I also feel so much healthier since I joined crossfit.

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? I remind myself of how far I have come since the day I joined. I also do it for my kids, they are my world and I want to be around to see grandchildren running around one day (but for the record….I don’t want this anytime soon!!)

What’s your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman?  The coaches are all very encouraging and I always feel that I am getting a one on one workout in a group class because they have everyone’s best interest at heart!  Everyone at Crossfit Cayman is very friendly and welcoming.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman?  I would say, just give it a shot.  Don’t be intimidated and don’t underestimate yourself.  There are people from all kinds of different athletic and non-athletic backgrounds so just make the decision and show up!

Name:  Brooke Parchment

Age: 22

Hometown: Grand Cayman

How long have you been CrossFitting?  Just over 1 year

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise?  Hang power cleans

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise?  Running/ burpees

What is your previous workout/athletic background? I did gymnastics, football and netball for a while when I was younger, but I stopped all sports around when I was 15, so I was pretty inactive for about seven years.

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like?  I was terrified. I knew that I was out of shape. I was really intimidated when watching everyone do the workout, but once I got into it I realized that it wasn’t so bad, and everyone was really welcoming.

What results have you seen since CrossFitting? Since starting crossfit I’ve definitely gotten a lot stronger, and I’ve lost a bit of weight. I generally just feel better, and I have a lot more energy than I did before.

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? When I first started I was really eager to finish within the time cap of each workout, so I would scale and sometimes rush to fit within the cap, this would sometimes lead to bad form. Recently I’ve tried not to scale too much, and just focus on good form, and a good pace. I find that this has really helped when getting through a workout. Of course the time cap is important, so I also keep that in mind, but it’s not the only thing I focus on in the workouts.

What’s your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman?  I love the atmosphere. Everyone is super nice and encouraging. It really feels like family.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman?  Go for it! Joining CrossFit Cayman was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made. It was something I never thought I’d be capable of, and I’ve proven myself wrong.
