Check out our interview with both of them below!

Melanie Khouri

Name:  Melanie Khouri

Age:  50

Hometown:  Grand Cayman

How long have you been CrossFitting?  8 plus years (I think)

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise?  Anything with snatches (which I used to hate)

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise?  Fight Gone Bad

What is your previous workout/athletic background?  None till my twenties when I started to run and then gym classes being a mix of cardio, weights, circuit and kickboxing, .

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like?  Near death (I was totally out of shape at the time) but super intriguing.  I saw the possibilities and I was hooked.

What results have you seen since CrossFitting?  Weight loss, muscle gain, strength, and skill.  Overall a better body shape than I had before.

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)?  Keep telling myself I can do it, just one more round.  And I take short rests to catch my breath in between.

What’s your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman?  Hands down the coaches.  They are involved in every work out, keeping an eye on everyone and always ensuring proper technique.  They aren’t about maxing out a workout with superhuman strength.  It’s about getting it right so you can improve.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman?  If you like variety and you want a nice body shape, this is the activity for you.  It’s tough, sometimes brutal, and some days it whips you, but the end results are worth the challenge.  Plus you always scale or substitute movements in a WOD to match your ability.

Roberto Toffoli

Name: Roberto Toffoli

Age: 37

Hometown: Sao Paulo Brasil

How long have you been CrossFitting? About 5 years

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise? I like squat cleans and Double-unders

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise? Burpees and Overhead squats

What is your previous workout/athletic background? I used to go to a regular gym and spend 3 hours to try to grow muscles and I played soccer once a week.

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like? My first experience was great, my sister told me about CrossFit, she loved doing it, so I decided to give a try. I did a free class and I was so out of shape that I almost died, but what I liked about that first time was the coach giving me all the attention and motivation to keep going even when my technique was horrible, still not great but every day  improve a little bit.

What results have you seen since CrossFitting? The results are fantastic not just physically but mentally, some WODs take me out from my comfort zone and it is a mental battle, however I never give up.

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? It doesn’t matter how much it is hurting just keep going. I am not really fast but I am trying to keep my pace in each movement to take me to the end of each WOD.

What’s your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman? I like the environment, everybody is very friendly and the coaches are very well qualified and patient in showing everyone the best technique for each athlete.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman? Don’t lose anymore time, come and join CrossFit CAYMAN, the foundation may be a little bit boring but it is necessary to give you a base on the technique that you will need to not get hurt.
