Athlete Profile:

 Name:  Freeps Martin
 Age: 35
Hometown: Grand Cayman
How long have you been CrossFitting? A year and a half
What is your favorite WOD/Exercise? Helen, because that’s the first WOD I RX’d. I really like anything with body weight like sit ups, press ups, pull ups, burpees…
What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise? Anything with thrusters or weighted squats, snatches and I am not really a fan of push presses either!
What is your previous workout/athletic background? I grew playing tennis, squash, sailing, skiing and doing gymnastics. I was a contemporary dancer. I used to kitebkoard pre kids and I practice yoga A LOT.
What was your first experience of CrossFit like? I can’t say I loved it but I was curious. once I got through the introduction classes and came to understand what it was about I loved it.
What results have you seen since CrossFitting?Well on a physical level I am so much stronger and understand what it truly means to “use your core” which has helped me tremendously with lifting my children and often times doing so with many bags if groceries! It has benefited my yoga practice hugely. I am much stronger in my joints. I have a better balance between my strength and flexibility. My energy levels have increased which is wonderful as that is something I have always struggled with. On a more personal level cross fit has helped me “get a back bone” and and stand by my boundaries. It has developed my endurance to get through personal challenges that I have had difficulty dealing with in the past. It keeps me so positive even when life can be a little tough and it makes me better mum.
What’s your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman? everyone is really nice and very supportive. Even the fittest of members take time when they’ve finished the work out to support others who are still ithe process of getting through it. The coaches live, eat and sleep crossfit which I think is important. they are authentic, they practice what they preach and to me that goes a long way!
What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman? Do it! Don’t be put off in the beginning if you think it’s too hard. if I can do it anyone can do it, really. Everything can be scaled so don’t be intimidated! keep up the stretching if you do come, that’s very important. Be open minded and keep humble. Oh yes and the most important thing, enjoy it! it really will offer a lot to your life in many more ways than you would expect and I say that from experience!
